Engineers of the National Army - 27 years of mission in the service of peace

CHISINAU, October 19, 2019 - The "Codru" Genius Battalion celebrated Unity Day today, during an event attended by representatives of the National Army command corps, former battalion commanders, veterans and residents of Straseni district.

Present at the event, the commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Igor Gorgan, congratulated the military and civilians, mentioning the importance of the genius weapon for the National Army and the Republic of Moldova.

"Engineers are the military who carry out peacekeeping missions in peacetime, and as evidenced by tens of thousands of explosive devices neutralized by Genius Battalion soldiers on international missions, including the KFOR mission in Kosovo, and their performance has been and is appreciated of experts and high-ranking commanders, "said General Gorgan.

The commander of the National Army added that the activity of engineers is quite requested in the country, where they are involved in demining missions. "This year alone, the army`s genius teams, including soldiers from your battalion, destroyed more than 7,000 explosives. It is a large number, which means thousands of lives saved. And for this you have the respect of the whole society and of the country's leadership", mentioned Igor Gorgan.

During the activity in Negresti, the best soldiers were decorated with distinctions of the National Army. At the end, the guests present at the event had the opportunity to get acquainted with the special equipment and technique of the unit. 

The "Codru" Genius Battalion, formed on October 16, 1992, is the first unit of the National Army decorated by presidential decree with the state order "Faith of the Fatherland", class I.
