Moldovan-Turkish dialogue at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, November 5, 2019 - Minister of Defense Pavel Voicu had a meeting with the Turkish ambassador to Chisinau, Gürol Sökmensüer.

The commander of the National Army, Brigadier General, Igor Gorgan, also took part in the talks.

The main topics addressed by the two officials focused on the current state of bilateral cooperation in the defense segment and the prospects for its consolidation through new projects aimed at developing the capabilities of the National Army.

Pavel Voicu informed the Turkish ambassador about the main actions carried out in the context of the defense institution reform, the collaboration relations with external partners and international organizations, as well as the joint programs and initiatives implemented in order to professionalize and equip the National Army.

Minister Voicu thanked the Turkish Government for the training and vocational training opportunities of the Moldovan military in specialized institutions in Turkey, including the Regional Center for the Preparation of the Partnership for Peace in Ankara. Pavel Voicu also appreciated the contribution of the Turkish partners to the implementation of the project for the destruction of pesticide waste on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and the development of the field of military medicine, an objective provided in the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI).

For his part, Gürol Sökmensüer highlighted his country`s readiness to continue supporting the Republic of Moldova in modernizing and transforming the defense institution.
