Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security for the attention of representatives of the force structures



CHISINAU, December 27, 2019 - The Ministry of Defense, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), UN Women and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, organizes between December 24-27, in Balti and Cahul, awareness-raising activities for representatives of institutions in the sector security and defense on the negative effects of gender-based violence, the importance of preventing and combating it.

Participants from the subdivisions of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs study aspects of the Women's Agenda, Peace and Security, the role of the police in preventing and combating domestic violence - legislative remedies, sexual violence and gender-based violence in armed conflict, and prevention and investigation cases of sexual harassment.

The training, carried out within the project "Support for security sector reform in the Republic of Moldova", implemented by UNDP, is part of the measures developed to achieve the objectives included in the Strategy for ensuring equality between women and men in the Republic of Moldova for 2017-2021, Program National Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security for the years 2018-2021 and in the National Strategy for Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence for the years 2018-2023.

Also in December, the representatives of the National Army participated, in Chisinau, in the workshop entitled "Realization of the National Program for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security: challenges, difficulties, trends, perspectives".

During the activity, the 25 participants reviewed the results obtained by the institutions of the security and defense sector in the implementation of the National Program for the Implementation of Resolution 1325 and made an exchange of positive practices and lessons learned. At the same time, they identified the priorities in the field for 2020 and submitted proposals for the improvement of the National Program from a conceptual and legal point of view.

The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Defense, in partnership with A.O. "Gender Center", with the support of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women`s Empowerment (UN Women) and the Government of Sweden.
