Plan of events dedicated to commemorating 28 years since the beginning of the combat actions in 1992, analyzed by the Organizing Committee responsible and the National Council for the problems of war veterans

CHISINAU, February 7, 2020 — The members of the Organizing Committee for the events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and the National Council for the problems of war veterans, as well as representatives of the veterans’ organizations, met today at the Center for Culture and Military History.

The meeting, chaired by Defense Minister Victor Gaiciuc, began with a minute of silence in memory of the heroes who fell in the struggles for territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova in 1992.

Subsequently, the actions provided in the Plan of events dedicated to commemorating 28 years since the beginning of the military actions for the defense of the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova and the Scenario Plan of the activities dedicated to the Day of Remembrance, celebrated every year on March 2, were analyzed.

The discussions focused, in particular, on the way of the respective actions, but also on the organizational, financial and logistical problems faced by the institutions responsible for executing the Plan.

In this regard, Minister Gaiciuc asked the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection (MSMPS), the National House of Social Insurance, the Information and Security Service, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the local public authorities, as well. and Veterans’ Organizations to make the maximum effort to carry out at the highest level the actions provided in the Event Plan dedicated to commemorating 28 years since the beginning of the combat actions in 1992, including the activities planned to mark the Day of Remembrance.

Another important item on the agenda of the discussions was the evaluation of the measures taken by authorities and state institutions to solve the problems addressed at the first meeting of the National Council for the problems of war veterans on January 24, among the most stringent ones being social protection, granting new type cards and health insurance policy, treatment and rehabilitation conditions, allowances for different categories of veterans, as well as ensuring their constitutional rights and freedoms are respected.

As a result, a series of solutions have been proposed for updating the memory of the fallen heroes in battles such as: evaluating all the tombs of the heroes killed in the war, identifying the maintenance and care methods, editing a book entitled "In memory of the fallen in the battles on the Dniester "and a documentary film about the heroes of independence until 2022, when 30 years will be commemorated since the beginning of the fighting actions for the defense of the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the identification of educational institutions, streets, bearing the names of the heroes and elaborating a concept of the juxtaposition of the names of those fallen through such actions and beyond.

At the same time, it was examined the possibility of granting health insurance policies to about 5000 war veterans, as well as increasing the monthly allowance for war widows up to 500 lei per month. At the same time, the possibility of providing 124 war veterans with rehabilitation services at the Republican Experimental Center for Prosthetics, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation was examined and to provide medical assistance in the MSMPS Clinical Hospital for an additional 600 veterans.

Based on the Government’s disposition, during the current year, in the municipality of Chisinau, but also in the districts of the country, there will be a series of events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance, including a March of Remembrance, commemoration ceremonies, flower arrangements, installation of commemorative plaques on some buildings in localities, as well as educational-patriotic activities in educational institutions and military units.
