Control measures against COVID-19 undertaken in the National ArmyCHISINAU, March 9, 2020- The Minister of Defense, Victor Gaiciuc has ordered the banning of access to foreign units and visitors (relatives of the military in term), annual leave for soldiers and mass activities in units of the National Army. This decision was made concerning the seasonal increase in the number of acute respiratory infections, but also as a result of the detection of the first case of new type Coronavirus in the Republic of Moldova. According to the chief of Military Inspectorate, Colonel Victor Pirtina, in order to prevent the new type COVID-19 virus, the specialists from the medical subdivisions of the Army hold information sessions for the term and contract staff from all the garrisons with the distribution of information leaflets. At the same time, means of individual protection (disposable suits, goggles, masks, baths, and surgical suits) were prepared to be distributed in medical units and institutions. The source added that recently, based on the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the NATO Organization for Support and Procurement on the development of biological risk mitigation capabilities in our country, the National Army has received special decontamination equipment (inflatable decontamination booth DD-04). At the same time, the soldiers responsible for the Military Inspectorate, the Logistics Directorate, the Medical-Military Directorate, the Central Military Clinical Hospital, as well as from the "Stefan cel Mare" Brigade, were trained how to operate the machine. NOTE: The Military Inspectorate (MI) of the Ministry of Defense urges the military and civilian personnel of the National Army to respect the hygiene rules and recommendations of doctors, to avoid contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections, to avoid traveling abroad and crowded places, to wash frequently one’s hands, use personal protective mask. At the same time, in case of the first symptoms of respiratory infection, to seek medical assistance urgently.
