The soldiers of the National Army, mobilized to maintain the public order (video)



Chisinau, March 24, 2020 - The soldiers of the National Army will be mobilized to help the authorities in managing the crisis related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement was made today, at the Ministry of Defense, by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Igor Dodon, who also signed a decree in this regard.

Thus, according to the Supreme Commander, the Ministry of Defense will make available if necessary its logistical resources to support the medical staff involved in managing the crisis, whether it is the provision of hospital units, involvement of military medical personnel, military transport capacities, made available to the authorities or other types of support.

At the same time, the military will help the Interior Ministry implement measures already taken by authorities to combat the spread of the virus, including patrolling public places to ensure respect for social distance (implicitly self-isolating the elderly or children), a vital thing in preventing the spread of the pandemic and in reducing the incidence of getting sick of vulnerable citizens.

During the meeting, with the participation of the leadership of the defense institution and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the Secretary of the Supreme Security Council, General of Division Victor Gaiciuc, the commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Igor Gorgan, and the command corps representatives Alexandru Pinzari stated that the Army will intervene in strict accordance with the law.

"We will be available to colleagues from the Ministry of Interior and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. Together with the decision makers and the people responsible for the operational planning, we will decide how to intervene in the fastest way in the places where our presence is necessary and the situation is more concerning ", said Pinzari.

In his turn, General Igor Gorgan mentioned that at this moment, the National Army is ready to intervene with a total number of over 1500 soldiers and about 160 insurance technical units for patrols in public spaces, together with police and carabineers, including parks, recreational lands and other crowded areas throughout the country.

It should be mentioned that previously, the National Army intervened with technical and effective units to ensure the transportation of medical workers to work and home.

At the same time, the ambulances of the Central Military Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Defense transported home the patients who initially had signs of COVID -19 infection, but the tests proved to be negative.
