The Minister of Defense talks about the achievements and contribution of the institution to prevent the spread of COVID-19



 

CHISINAU, April 17, 2020 — I came to this position in a tough period, it is one of the most difficult time than ever, when Coronavirus wreaks havoc all over the world. In such moments the National Army has the opportunity to be with the citizens, to inspire people to trust the military. The statement was made by the Minister of Defense Alexandru Pinzari during a press briefing held today at the headquarters of the defense institution.

Minister Pinzari specified that the military participates daily, together with the police and carabinieri, in the actions of informing and preventing the spread of the pandemic. "During the state of emergency, about 2,600 doctors were transported by our soldiers at home or to work. 120 soldiers participated in the arrangement works of the Sorting Center from Moldexpo. Every day, 120 soldiers are involved in pedestrian patrol missions in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul. Another 100 soldiers are involved in the fixed posts in the quarantined localities: Soroca, Carahasani, Talmaza, Stefan Voda and Glodeni. Dozens of soldiers participated in the disinfection of the post offices in the capital", said Alexandru Pinzari.

At the same time, the official referred to the contribution of the medical institutions of the Ministry of Defense to the prevention of the pandemic.

"We have to admit that it is a huge job that doctors around the world are doing now, including our military doctors. During the emergency, the Central Military Clinical Hospital provides support to strategic medical institutions in hospitalizing and testing the health of people suspected of being infected with COVID-19. So far, the hospital has received over 200 patients with symptoms specific to the new coronavirus ", mentioned the Minister of Defense.

Alexandru Pinzari also reported on a number of achievements since his appointment, including the launch of the "Veteran" telephone line and the approval of the Long-Term Military Capabilities Development Plan 2020-2030, by Government Decision and by Decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova.

In the end, the Minister of Defense thanked the team he leads, but also the military involved in missions to prevent the spread of the new type COVID-19 virus throughout the country, for dedication, professionalism, receptivity and support.

"I want to announce to the citizens that our soldiers will be on duty during the days of the Holy Easter Holidays, especially in the quarantined localities. Please show respect and understanding towards our soldiers and comply with the restrictions imposed by the authorities in the context of the pandemic! ", added Alexandru Pinzari.
