Alexandru Pinzari and Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca: telephone conversation in the context of the medical support provided by Romania in combating COVID-19

CHISINAU, May 5, 2020 - Minister of Defense Alexandru Pinzari had a telephone conversation last week with his Romanian counterpart, Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca, in the context of providing medical support to the Republic of Moldova to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

The officials discussed the epidemiological situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the assistance provided by Romania in this regard, by seconding the medical team from the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Health to the specialized strategic institutions in our country.

At the same time, the dialogue focused on the current state of cooperation between the two defense institutions and the joint activities carried out in various fields, in particular exercises, courses, exchanges of experience or military history.

The parties also addressed the cooperation in the field of military education, Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca specifying that, for 2020, in different military educational institutions in Romania, 67 places have been allocated for the National Army.

The two ministers expressed regret that the situation generated by the COVID-19 pandemic caused the suspension of cooperation projects and joint activities.

Minister Pinzari thanked the Romanian official for the support of the Romanian Army in supporting Moldovan doctors, but also in the recent repatriation of a Mali National Army soldier, noting that the neighboring country is permanently with our defense institution, demonstrating solidarity especially in difficult situations, such as the one related to the spread of COVID-19.

It should be mentioned that last week, Romania sent to the Republic of Moldova 42 doctors and nurses, including 11 medical staff of the Ministry of National Defense.

They have already started their activity in the strategic medical institutions in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul, involved in combating COVID-19.
