Bilateral cooperation in the field of defense, for the attention of the Minister of Defense Alexandru Pinzari and the Romanian Ambassador, Daniel Ionita

CHISINAU, May 13, 2020 - The Minister of Defense Alexandru Pinzari and the Ambassador of Romania to Chisinau, Daniel Ionita, discussed today, during a meeting, the bilateral cooperation on the Romanian defense dimension and the assistance provided in this regard.

Thus, the officials referred to the contribution of the Romanian side in the process of training and preparation of the National Army soldiers in the profile institutions across the Prut and in the bilateral and multinational military exercises.

At the same time, the discussions focused on the activity of the Moldovan-Romanian Joint Commission in the field of defense and the need to continue its activity in the context of developing and consolidating cooperation relations in the field.

The epidemiological situation regarding the spread of COVID-19 was another important topic addressed by Minister Pinzari and Ambassador Ioniţă in the dialogue.

In this regard, Alexandru Pinzari appreciated the support provided by Romania in combating the pandemic by deploying military and civilian doctors in the Republic of Moldova in support of Moldovan doctors, as well as by donating medical supplies worth 3.5 million euros to specialized institutions in the country , including the Central Military Clinical Hospital.

At the same time, the parties expressed their regret at the suspension of joint activities for an indefinite period in the context of the spread of the new coronavirus.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Defense and the Romanian Ambassador agreed on the resumption of bilateral projects with the improvement of the epidemiological situation, but also on the continuation of cooperation in areas of common interest.
