The National Army again intervenes in support of the authorities in the prevention of COVID-19



CHISINAU, June 13, 2020 - The National Army will be mobilized again to provide the necessary support to state authorities in managing the crisis related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A decree in this regard was signed by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Igor Dodon, on June 13, in connection with the epidemiological situation in the country caused by the evolution of the new coronavirus infection.

Thus, according to the document, the military will be involved in actions to monitor compliance by individuals and legal entities with measures to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19 infection, in accordance with the decisions of the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission.

Defense Minister Alexandru Pinzari mentioned that for this purpose, the military are ready to get involved in patrol and surveillance actions, as they did before, together with police and carabinieri. "This time, we will mobilize military teams by contract, without technical units, which will patrol on foot the public spaces in the capital - parks, recreational lands and other crowded areas - to monitor the compliance of the population with the measures imposed by the authorities, including wearing masks and respecting the social distance ", said Alexandru Pinzari.

It should be mentioned that previously, during the state of emergency in connection with the epidemiological situation, which ended on May 15, the National Army was with colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations in preventing the spread of COVID-19, being involved in pedestrian and car patrols, being at fixed positions in the quarantined localities, transporting medical workers to work and home, setting up the COVID-19 Sorting Center at Moldexpo, as well as disinfecting the premises of the Post Office of Moldova from the capital.
