Military engineers - requested 16 times in September



CHISINAU, October 8, 2020 - In September, the engineers of the National Army discovered about 230 explosive objects, during the 16 demining missions carried out in several localities in the country.

According to the officer of the Engineering Service, Captain Ivan Cornegruta, the largest amount of ammunition - 178 antipersonnel mines and projectile bullets - was found in an arable field near Viisoara, Stefan Voda district. The explosive objects, which date from the Second World War, were identified, neutralized and subsequently destroyed at the training center of the Genius Battalion by the team of engineers, led by Lieutenant Major Nicolai Chilaru.

The source specified that, during January-September this year, the engineers of the National Army detected and liquidated over 1,830 explosive objects. Most unexploded ordnance was found in localities in the districts of Hincesti, Stefan Voda, Causeni, Ialoveni and Anenii Noi.

 

NOTE: The Ministry of Defense warns that in areas where there is or is supposed to be ammunition, citizens are asked to notify the local authorities. In case of detection of unidentified explosive objects, it is strictly forbidden to touch the ammunition by hand or other objects, to hit or move the ammunition found in the ground or on the surface, to disassemble the warheads or other components.
