Participation of the National Army in international peacekeeping missions, discussed with the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee



CHISINAU, January 19, 2021 - The Chief of the General Staff of the National Army, Commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Igor Gorgan, had a telephone conversation with Chairman of the Military Committee of NATO, Marshal Stuart Peach.

The dialogue focused on the stage of collaboration of the National Army with NATO, mentioning the effectiveness of projects carried out by the international organization in the Republic of Moldova, especially in terms of expertise within the Defense Capabilities Development Initiative (DCBI) and the National Army Long Term Development Plan for the period 2020 to 2030.

The parties spoke about the security situation in international peacekeeping missions, the challenges faced by the military contingents deployed in these missions, as well as the identifying solutions for resolving them.

The commander of the National Army informed Marshal Peach about the participation and performance of Moldovan peacekeepers in the KFOR mission, but also about the interaction with the soldiers from other nations in NATO and EU operations.

In this regard, General Gorgan referred to the transfer of authority between National Army contingents 13 and 14 in the KFOR mission at the Camp Vilaggio Italia Multinational Base in Pech, Kosovo, expressing his conviction that the new contingent would face requirements and will fulfill all obligations in the area of responsibility.

The dialogue took place in the context of the meeting of the Military Committee, scheduled for January 27-28, in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, which will be attended by the commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Igor Gorgan.
