Inspection visit to the "Eternity" Memorial Complex



CHISINAU, April 23, 2021 - Acting Minister of Defense Victor Gaiciuc, accompanied by specialists from the Agency for Assurance of Resources and Heritage Administration, today inspected the condition of the repaired objectives on the territory of the Memorial Complex "Eternity".

Thus, the pyramid with five 25-meter-high rifles, the five-pointed star and the eternal flame in the center of the monument were checked. Also, the pavement from the monument "Maica Indurerata", the Stela Eroilor, as well as the granite slabs with the names of the fallen soldiers were examined.

As a result of the inspection, the Minister of Defense found that some repaired elements show, visually, insignificant seasonal disturbances, and for their removal it is necessary the intervention of the economic agent responsible for the works. In this context, Minister Gaiciuc urged the company, which is responsible for the repair, to remedy, as soon as possible, the existing problems.

"I received several notifications regarding the quality of the renovation works of the Memorial Complex and I personally decided to come and document myself in this regard. It is important that the financial resources allocated for this complex, which represents a historical symbol for the citizens, be capitalized efficiently", said Victor Gaiciuc.

The director of the Agency for Assurance of Resources and Heritage Administration, Colonel Sergiu Voinu, mentioned that the repair of the Memorial Complex was carried out based on the Government Decision no. 61 of February 5, 2020 “On the organization and conduct of actions dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory Day and the commemoration of the fallen heroes for the independence of the Fatherland, prepared by the Ministry of Defense. Work began in March last year and lasted about four months.

The source specified that based on the contract regarding the repair of the basic elements of the monument, the responsible economic agent assumed the obligation to remove any deficiencies detected during ten years from the completion of the works.

The "Eternity" Memorial Complex was inaugurated in 1975, in honor of the memory of the soldiers who fell in the struggles to liberate Moldova and Chisinau from fascist occupation during World War II. The monument was created by sculptors A. Maiko and I. Poniatowski and architect A. Minaev in the 1970s. 267 Moldovan, Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian soldiers were buried in the memorial territory and fell in battle.
