National Army Service Members Commemorate the Soldiers Who Died in World War II



CHISINAU, May 9, 2021- The National Army service members commemorated the heroes who fell in World War II, in a formal military ceremony.

In Chisinau, Acting Defense Minister nVictor and National Army Commander Brig. Gen. Igor Gorgan, along with representatives of central public authorities, the diplomatic corps and veterans laid flowers at the "Eternitate" Memorial Complex.

Also today, Minister Gaiciuc participated in the inauguration of a monument dedicated to the fallen heroes on the battlefield in Speia village, Anenii Noi district and laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, from the "Capul de Pod Serpeni" Memorial Complex.

At the same time, this year, a series of informative-educational activities were organized in the units of the National Army, with the involvement of the conscripts and contract-based military service, but also commemorative actions with a minute of silence and flower laying at the monuments of fallen heroes, located on their territory.

It should be mentioned that, in the context of the pandemic, a limited number of people participated in the commemoration events, in compliance with all protection measures against Covid-19.

World War II involved about 300,000 Moldovans, of whom about 100,000 fell on the battlefield.

Currently, 202 veterans of the 1941-1945 war are registered in the Republic of Moldova.
