The Minister of Defense and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden discussed continuing cooperation in the military segment
CHISINAU, October 8, 2021 – The Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii had a meeting today with Katarina Martholm Fried, the ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden in our country.
The subjects discussed regarded the military cooperation between the two states, with a focus on projects supported by the Swedish government in the National Army in the context of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) and the Comprehensive Weapons Program Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW).
Minister Anatolie Nosatii thanked the diplomat, in particular, for the financial assistance provided for the implementation of the Professional Development Plan, but also for the donation of equipment within the NATO DCBI program for the Transformation Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
At the same time, Anatolie Nosatii referred to the significant support offered by the Kingdom of Sweden to the implementation in the National Army of the UN Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and Security". In this regard, the official mentioned that, thanks to the Swedish partners, through the prism of the SWEDINT International Training Center and the Nordic Center for Gender Mainstreaming in Military Operations (NCGM), during 2018-2021, 34 people from the Ministry of Defense and the National Army participated in various forms of training in the field. Other topics addressed included reforms aimed at modernizing the National Army, strengthening cooperation with external partners and aspirations to increase participation in international peacekeeping operations.
In turn, Katarina Martholm Fried mentioned that her country is willing to continue to provide support to the National Army in promoting and implementing the objectives set by the institution.
