Moldovan-Latvian dialogue at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, October 21, 2021 - The Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii received today, at the headquarters of the institution, the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Moldova, Mikuts Uldis. During the meeting, the new Defense Attaché for Ukraine, Belarus and the Republic of Moldova was presented at the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia, residing in Kiev, Colonel Alexandrs Holmanovs.

Anatolie Nosatii congratulated the military diplomat on the occasion of his appointment and wished him success in the exercise of his mandate. In turn, Colonel Alexandrs Holmanovs mentioned that he will make efforts to boost the collaboration between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Latvian one.

At the beginning of the dialogue, officials discussed the assistance provided by the Latvian side in various fields, but also the prospects for strengthening the partnership between the two armies.

In this regard, the Minister of Defense appreciated Latvia's contribution to the implementation of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI), as well as to the training of the National Army in the Baltic institutions.

Anatolie Nosatii also thanked the Latvian Government for its support in the context of the participation of the Moldovan military in various activities under the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP), including the deployment in peacekeeping missions under the auspices of the European Union from Mali. The talks included topics related to the current governance objectives in the field of defense and security, transforming the National Army into an institution adjusted to international standards, priorities for intensifying military participation in international peacekeeping missions and strengthening cooperation with partners external.

In the end, the officials agreed on deepening the collaborative relations between the defense institutions of the two countries, by identifying new initiatives and projects of common interest.
