National Army Service Members commemorated fallen heroes in Afghanistan

CHISINAU, February 15, 2022 - Military personnel from all garrisons of the National Army paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Afghan War during commemoration events held throughout the country.

Thus, in Chisinau municipality, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii, together with the leadership of the Parliament, representatives of the Government and local public authorities, servicemen, and war veterans, laid flowers at the Memorial Complex " Feciorilor Patriei — Sfântă Amintire" in the Riscani sector of the capital.

At the same time, the servicemen from the Cahul and Balti motorized infantry brigades paid tribute to the heroes of the war in Afghanistan by laying flowers at local monuments.

Official data show that around 12 500 Moldovans took part in the war in Afghanistan between 1979 and 1989, of which 301 lost their lives.

It should be noted that 2022 marks the 33rd anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. In this regard, throughout the year, thematic exhibitions, educational-patriotic activities, commemoration ceremonies, laying of flowers, meetings of veterans with young people in schools and military units, installation of memorials and commemorative plaques will be organized throughout the country. The events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the fallen heroes of the war in Afghanistan take place in accordance with the Government`s provision No. 26-d of 2 February this year.
