Demining Mission in April: 81 explosive objects and 1,403 cartridges neutralized by the National Army Engineers

 CHISINAU, May 5, 2022 - During April, the National Army Engineers carried out 19 demining missions in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, as well as in localities in the districts of Anenii Noi, Orhei, Dubasari, Straseni, Ialoveni, Singerei, Falesti, Ungheni, and Hincesti.

According to the head of the Genius Service of the National Army, Lieutenant-Colonel Igor Livitchi during that period, 81 explosive objects and 1,403 cartridges of different calibers were detected and destroyed.

Thus, the engineering team of the "Codru" genius battalion, led by Sergeant Evghenii Axentii, intervened in Serpeni, Anenii Noi district, where it identified three artillery shells, 6th anti-tank mines, 18 hand grenades, a rifle grenade, 3 warheads, trotyl, and 1,403 cartridges.

Also, in April, engineers from the "Moldova" Motorized Infantry Brigade carried out a demining mission in the town of Lipcani, Briceni district, where locals discovered 20 artillery shells in the nearby forest.

All ammunition dates from the Second World War and destroyed under maximum security conditions.

Since the beginning of the year, the engineers of the National Army have carried out 55 demining missions throughout the country, during which they destroyed 201 explosive objects of various types and 9,412 cartridges.

NOTE: During the growing season, the number of unexploded ordnance found in the soil increases. In this regard, the engineers of the National Army warn:

If you find an explosive object:

- announce 112;

- Mark the location of the explosive object;

- DO NOT touch ammunition;

- DO NOT hit or move ammunition found in the ground or on the surface;

- DO NOT disassemble the warheads or other components;

- Do not dispose of the explosive in a fire.
