Ministers of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and Romania in dialog in Bucharest



CHISINAU, June 8, 2022 - The Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatii had a meeting with his Romanian counterpart, Vasile Dincu.

On the agenda were topics related to the current state of cooperation in the military segment, the architecture of regional security, and the support provided by Romania to transform the defense institution of the Republic of Moldova in accordance with the standards of a democratic government.

Thus, Minister Nosatii thanked the Romanian official for the assistance provided by Romania in the modernization of the National Army, but also for the support of the Republic of Moldova in its European course. "Romania has been and is a reliable strategic partner, a strong supporter of Moldova`s desire for European integration, implementation of democratic reforms, strengthening efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region, and promoting the interests of our country internationally." said Anatolie Nosatii.

The Moldovan Minister of Defense referred to the significant contribution of Romanian partners to the implementation of projects under the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) and other joint programs, the development of military education, and training opportunities for the National Army in specialized institutions in Romania.

Anatolie Nosatii expressed the hope that bilateral cooperation relations will be intensified, by identifying new initiatives for the benefit of both armies. In his turn, Minister Vasile Dincu mentioned during the meeting: “Romania strongly expresses its readiness and interest to develop cooperation with the National Army of the Republic of Moldova for mutual benefit and to support its efforts on modernization, increase operational capacity and the level of interoperability". The Romanian official also stressed, in the context of discussions on Moldova`s relations with NATO, the importance of "mutual commitment to implement the lines of effort related to the Defense Capacity Building Package dedicated to the Republic of Moldova."

Other topics included the contribution of the National Army to strengthening regional security through the participation of the Moldovan military in the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, as well as the decision to participate soon in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

It should be mentioned that the Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatii pays an official visit to Romania on June 7-8, at the invitation of his counterpart, Vasile Dincu. In Bucharest, Anatolie Nosatii had a series of meetings with several policy-makers from the Romanian state institutions, including Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca, the chairman of the Committee for Defense, Public Order and National Security in the Romanian Senate, Nicoleta Pauliuc.
