US delegation - official visit to the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, July 12, 2022 – Deputy assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs Laura K. Cooper, accompanied by Brigadier General Edward Vaughan, Deputy Director of Plans, Policy, Strategy and Capabilities at United States European Command (EUCOM) pays an official visit to the Republic of Moldova within July 10 — July 13. On Monday, July 11, the American officials had meetings with the Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii, and also with the commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc.

The talks included subjects related to the current state of bilateral cooperation, military reform, the situation of regional security, and also the prospects of expanding the partnership in several areas.

The parties also referred to the support provided over the years by the United States in training of the National Army soldiers in US educational institutions, in international exercises, logistics, equipment, and modern technical units, renovation of military infrastructure, and also expertise in drafting defense policy documents.

In the end, officials agreed to expand cooperation between the armies of the Republic of Moldova and the US, by participating in joint activities and implementing new bilateral projects aimed at transforming the defense of our country in accordance with the standards of good democratic governance.

At the same time, the US delegation participated in the official opening ceremony of the Destruction Range within the EOD Center of Excellence, developed through the US HMA Program (Humanitarian Mine Action), which aims to increase the capabilities of the genius subunits of the National Army. It should be mentioned that in Chisinau, the US delegation also has planned meetings with Parliament officials and with the representatives of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and diplomats.
