Ammunition Batch Neutralized by military engineers in Rascaieti
CHISINAU, August 3, 2022 — The service members from the "Codru" Battalion destroyed, today, an arsenal of ammunition from the Second World War, near the village of Rascaieti, Stefan Voda district.
According to the commander of the Genius Battalion, colonel Gheorghe Racu, explosive objects were found following agricultural works. The engineer team led by Sergeant Evghenii Axentii went to the scene. Following the field research, the military discovered over 100 anti-personnel mines, 2 RGD hand grenades, an anti-tank grenade, and a 100 mm projectile. All the ammunition of German production.
The source mentioned that the ammunition arsenal, which had been in the ground for over 70 years, had an increased degree of wear and tear and presented a danger during transportation, therefore it was neutralized on the spot, under maximum security conditions.
NOTE: The Ministry of Defense warns citizens, in case of detection of unidentified explosive objects, to notify the local authorities.
It is categorically forbidden to touch ammunition with hands or other objects, to hit or move ammunition found in the ground or on the surface, or to dismantle warheads or other components.
