Building Integrity consultation at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, September 28, 2022 — At the Ministry of Defense, Bilateral consultations with the team of international experts of the Building Integrity Program (BI), offered by NATO within the Partnership for Peace.

The visit takes place in the context of consultations on the implementation of the self-assessment process of strengthening the integrity of the defense institution.

The program is part of NATO`s instruments and initiatives aimed at facilitating understanding of corruption risks, as well as identifying actions to strengthen integrity, increase transparency and improve accountability in the defense and security sector. The program provides a diagnosis of the level of corruption in the defense institution, as well as possible practical actions to prevent and improve anti-corruption measures within the public entity.

The working sessions were attended by specialists in the field of institutional integrity from the subdivisions of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army General Staff, as well as representatives of the Civil society Platform. Thus, in practice, the peer review report developed with the support of international experts was analyzed based on the self-assessment questionnaire completed by the Ministry of Defense.

The implementation of the Building Integrity Program in the security and defense sector represents a commitment made by the Republic of Moldova, including in the cooperation instruments, namely: The individual Action Plan of the Partnership Republic of Moldova — NATO, the Partnership planning and review process, and the Defense capacity building Initiative, as well as the Action Plan on the implementation of the National Defense Strategy for 2018-2022.
