Anatolie Nosatii in dialog with EU officials in Brussels



CHISINAU, October 13, 2022 — Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatii, met with policy-makers from the European Union in Brussels.

Thus, in the first half of the day, Anatolie Nosatii had meetings with the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, Robert Brieger, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Charles Fries, with whom he discussed the cooperation between the defense institution of the Republic of Moldova with the EU subdivisions and the support granted in reforming and modernizing the defense and security sector of our country, the aspects of European integration, the security situation in the Black Sea Basin and the main challenges and effects for the security of the Republic of Moldova.

The collaboration with the Member countries of the European Union through various programs in the defense and crisis management segment was also the subject of the meetings of the Minister Nosatii with the Executive Director of the European Defense Agency, Jiří Šedivy and the Interim Director-General of the Service to the Deputy Secretary-General for the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) and crisis response, Joanneke Balfoort, EEAS.

The Minister of Defense appreciated, in this respect, the contribution of European States to the granting of the Republic of Moldova the status of EU candidate country, the support offered to our country on the defense branch through existing mechanisms such as The Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP), the Eastern Partnership and, currently, the European Peace Instrument (EPF), which will modernize the National Army`s capabilities for crisis management and participation in international peacekeeping operations.

The Moldovan official also thanked for the support of the participation of the National Army soldiers in the European Union Mission of Military training and Counseling for the Defense and Security Forces in Mali, but also for the objective of extending the presence of the Republic of Moldova in operations to maintain peace and stability at the international level.

In their turn, European officials expressed their readiness to support further the objectives of transforming the defense institution in compliance with international standards, modernizing the capabilities of the National Army, as well as the European path of the Republic of Moldova.

It should be noted that Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii is on a working visit to Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium within October 12 — October 13, 2022.
