Canadian delegation at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, November 1, 2022 — Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii has met today Jacqueline O’Neill, Ambassador with special missions for UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "on Women, Peace, and Security" (WPS) of the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The discussions were attended by the Canadian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, residing in Bucharest, E.S. Annick Goulet.

The parties reviewed the bilateral cooperation in defense and the development prospects of the Moldovan-Canadian partnership, the security situation in the region, and the joint assistance projects implemented in the context of the National Army reform.

At the same time, the officials referred to the importance of gender equality in the national security and defense sector, the commitment made by the Republic of Moldova to implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (WPS), as well as the achievements of the Ministry of Defense in this chapter.

Minister Nosatii appreciated the contribution of responsible organizations to promoting gender equality in our country, and the support offered in training the National Army staff in the field, but also the facilitation of the participation of women from the National Army in peacekeeping operations under the aegis of the UN.

At the same time, Anatolie Nosatii thanked the Government of Canada for equipment donation and protective suits for destroying anti-personnel mines that Moldovan military engineers use during missions throughout the country.

Other topics on the agenda of the discussions concerned the possibilities of intensifying the collaboration between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Department of National Defense of Canada, including within the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI), as well as in the field of equipping and training National Army engineers in compliance with international standards.

In turn, Canadian officials said they would support the identification and implementation of new collaborative projects beneficial to both armies.

The military cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Canada started in 1996.
