The annual conference entitled "Security through Cooperation" at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, November 16, 2022 — The 19th edition of the Annual Conference entitled “Security through Cooperation” was held today at the Ministry of Defense headquarters.

The meeting was attended by US Ambassador Kent Logsdon, German Ambassador Margret Maria Uebber, Director of the European Center for Security Studies “George C. Marshall” Major General (r) Barre Seguin, Adviser to the President of the Republic of Moldova on Defense and National Security Secretary of Supreme Security Council, Dorin Recean experts in security and defense, graduates of various programs within the Center, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and other state institutions.

The agenda of the conference included topical topics in the field of national security of the Republic of Moldova as a candidate for accession to the European Union (EU), Security Strategy, approaches to the security situation in the region, and the consequences for neighboring states, conclusions and recommendations, and others.

According to Director Barre Seguin, meetings with Marshall Center graduates are an important opportunity to promote cooperation, share common values best practices, and engage in continuous professional development.

In his turn, Secretary General Igor Cutie stressed the ascendant and multidimensional cooperation of our country with the EU and bilateral partners, including the European Center for Security Studies “George C. Marshall” and their contribution to the development of the national defense and security sector, in accordance with the principles and standards of democratic governance. “I am sure that the discussions at today’s conference will ensure a better understanding of the national, international, and regional security situation in the context of Moldova’s accession to the EU,” said Secretary General Cutie.

It should be mentioned that so far, about 300 military, police officers, and civil servants have been trained at the European Center for Security Studies “George C. C. Marshall”. Today, these graduates contribute to the creation of a stable security environment in our country, to the democratic development of state institutions, as well as to the strengthening of security mechanisms.

The event was organized by the Association of Graduates of European Center for Security Studies “George C. Marshall” from the Republic of Moldova with the support of the United States Embassy in Moldova and the German Embassy in Chisinau.
