The bilateral cooperation plan for 2023 between the Ministries of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and Lithuania, signed in Vilnius (video)



VILNIUS, November 22, 2022 — Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi had a meeting today in Vilnius with his Lithuanian counterpart, Arvydas Anušauskas.

The officials discussed the current state of cooperation between the two defense institutions, the regional security situation and the crises generated by the conflict in the Black Sea region, the military reform, but also the prospects for intensifying the partnership between the armies of the Republic of Moldova and Lithuania.

On this occasion, the two officials signed the Bilateral Cooperation Plan for 2023 and held press statements.

Minister Anatolie Nosatîi appreciated, during the discussions, the assistance offered by the Lithuanian side to the modernization of the National Army, including the development of defense capabilities within the framework of the NATO Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) and the NATO Assistance Package for the Republic of Moldova (Tailored Support Package ), as well as the promotion of other related projects for our country in meetings at the international level.

The Moldovan official also thanked for the political support in the context of joining the European Peace Facility (EPF), in which Lithuania contributed to the implementation of the first two projects intended for the Republic of Moldova for 2021, aimed at developing the capabilities of the medical and engineering units of the National Army.

At the same time, Anatolie Nosatîi expressed his gratitude for the training in various fields, including linguistics, of the military and civilian employees of the National Army in relevant institutions in Lithuania, but also for facilitating, through the Trust Fund, the participation of Moldovan officers in the Mission European Union military training and counseling for the defense and security forces of Mali.

“Lithuania has been with the Republic of Moldova in many of the key moments of our history, being a credible partner and a firm supporter of our country in achieving the desired European integration and expanding its contribution to ensuring international peace and stability. We want to expand the partnership between our defense structures, through various activities and initiatives at the bilateral and international level”, said Minister Nosatîi.

During the day, the Minister of Defense also had a series of meetings with the President of the Parliamentary Commission for national security and defense, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, the deputy minister of foreign affairs of Lithuania, Egidijus Meilūnas, as well as with representatives of the strategic communication subdivision of the lithuanian Armed Forces and of the embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Vilnius.

At the same time, on Wednesday, November 23, Anatolie Nosatîi is going to participate in the military parade held on the occasion of the anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Lithuania.

It should be mentioned that the Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi is making an official visit to Vilnius, between November 21-23, at the invitation of his lithuanian counterpart, Arvydas Anusauskas.
