Moldovan-French discussions at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, December 22, 2022 — Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii had, today, a meeting with the head of the Department for International Relations and Strategy of the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, Guillaume Ollagnier and the members of the French delegation who are in Chisinau in the context of bilateral consultations in the field of politics defense and military cooperation. The French ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Paul Graham, also participated in the meeting.

On the agenda of the discussions were topics regarding the Moldovan-French cooperation, the strengthening of the partnership, the objective of the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, the reforms carried out in the National Army, but also the security situation in the Black Sea basin.

During the dialogue, Minister Nosatii highly appreciated France’s role as a credible and active partner in supporting Moldova’s European integration initiatives, strengthening the partnership with the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as other international organizations and initiatives. At the same time, Minister Anatolie Nosatii emphasized the significance of the recent meeting with his French counterpart, Sebastien Lecornu, expressing his confidence that it will lead to the strengthening of relations between the two armies.

Another topic of discussion was the contribution of the Republic of Moldova to international peacekeeping missions. The French side appreciated, in this context, the efforts of the National Army to expand the number of participations in international operations of this kind with well-trained and interoperable soldiers.

It should be noted that the Moldovan-French bilateral consultations in the field of defense policy and military cooperation take place between December 20-22, 2022, in Chisinau.

Moldovan-French bilateral cooperation in the military field takes place on the basis of the Agreement between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of France, signed in Paris on July 15, 1998.
