The field of respect for human rights, addressed at the Ministry of Defense
CHISINAU, February 3, 2023 — Today, at the Ministry of Defense, a round table was organized with the participation of representatives from public institutions and non-governmental organizations specialized in the field of respect for human rights.
The event is part of the Action Plan for respecting, within the National Army, human rights, combating discrimination and ensuring the principles of gender equality for the year 2023.
Thus, representatives of the Council for the prevention and elimination of discrimination and ensuring equality, the Office of the People’s Advocate, UN Women, GENDER-Center, GENDERDOC-M, the UN Office for Human Rights in Moldova were informed about the actions to be carried out in the National Army in in order to ensure a favorable activity environment for the staff of the defense institution.
State Secretary Sergiu Plop declared, during the meeting, that the Ministry of Defense pays great attention to the component that refers to the respect of human rights and urged the representatives of the competent public institutions and NGOs to come up with recommendations to improve and carry out the actions planned in the document mentioned. At the same time, the official emphasized that the defense institution is open for collaboration in order to promote human rights, the principle of equality and non-discrimination.
