CHISINAU, May 16, 2023 — The Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi, and the Commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc, had meetings with the President of the Military Committee of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), Admiral Robert Bauer, who is on an official visit to Chisinau.

The agenda of the discussions focused on topics related to the current state of collaboration relations between the Republic of Moldova and NATO within the Partnership for Peace (PpP), the evolution of the security situation in the region and the crises our country is facing in the context of the war in Ukraine, the reform of the sector of defense from the Republic of Moldova and the contribution of the National Army to maintaining peace and stability at the international level by participating in peacekeeping missions.

In this context, the Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi highly appreciated the assistance given by allied and partner countries of NATO for the implementation of various projects aimed at the development of the defense sector according to the principles of democratic governance and the modernization of defense capabilities, as well as increasing national resilience.

At the end of the meetings, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc and Admiral Robert Bauer held press statements, in which they referred to the achievements of the over 30-year partnership between our country and the North Atlantic Alliance, with an emphasis on the promotion of external projects intended to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova, including the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) Republic of Moldova — NATO and the increased assistance package from the North Atlantic Alliance — Defense Capability Strengthening Initiative (DCBI).

The President of the NATO Military Committee declared that providing support to the Republic of Moldova is on the Alliance’s priority agenda and will remain here as long as it is needed. “Currently, we are undertaking concrete measures in the direction of providing greater political and practical support for the Republic of Moldova, to support its resilience and political independence. NATO respects the constitutional neutrality of the Republic of Moldova”, said Admiral Bauer.

For his part, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc appreciated the support of the North Atlantic Alliance in approving, this February, the assistance package for the National Army, which provides for increased cooperation in order to strengthen national resilience against new challenges and combat hybrid threats, but also the support granted, over the years, within various programs and projects of common interest.

“The development of defense capabilities and the transformation of the National Army into a modern institution, adjusted to international standards and capable of providing security to the citizens of our country, is one of the objectives of the leadership of the Republic of Moldova. We greatly appreciate the support of the North Atlantic Alliance in order to provide significant help in this regard, including through various forms of training at schools and centers of excellence, joint exercises with the militaries of NATO countries and partner countries, as well as expertise in the development of policy documents in the field of defense”, mentioned the commander of the National Army.

It should be noted that Admiral Bauer is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova, between May 15-17, at the invitation of the commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc.
