Public Consultations on Military Strategy

CHISINAU, October 24, 2011 — The Ministry of Defense starts today, October 24, the public consultation on the National Military Strategy draft.

The National Military Strategy of the Republic of Moldova is a middle-term political legal taking over and developing the leading military security principles of the Republic of Moldova National Security Strategy document. The document identifies potential military threats and risks to national security, defines national military goals, reveals strategic concepts necessary to fulfill these goals, the role and missions of the Armed Forces, as well as military planning guidelines.

The National Military Strategy is a fundamental document dealing with the Armed Forces’ activity and it works as a conceptual base for the Republic of Moldova Government in term of development of middle term military capabilities programs and plans very important for the Republic of Moldova sovereignty and integrity.

The strategy is based in principles of neutrality, territorial integrity, right to self-defense, democratic control over the Armed Forces, international cooperation, defensive adequacy, as well as principles resulting from Republic of Moldova’s assumed responsibilities on obeying fundamental principles of public international law.

Military Strategy, along with the National Security Strategy, establish the institutional framework and the variety of actions to support the development of state authorities’ capabilities necessary to respond promptly to military risks and threats to national security.
