National Army Servicemen Plant Nearly 8600 Trees and Bushes

CHISINAU, October 29, 2011 — National Army military and civil staff of all military units planted Saturday, October 29, trees and bushes within “Un arbore pentru dainuirea noastra” (A Tree for Our Perpetuation) event dedicated to the National Afforestation Day.

Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, along with over 150 military and civil employees of the Ministry of Defense and National Army Main Staff, planted about 800 trees in Ciocana district of Chisinau. The tree seedlings were provided by the Green Areas Management Association.

The National Army staff planted trees and bushes all over the country. Thus, nearly 2200 servicemen planted maples, ashes, nut trees and birches both, in Chisinau, as well as in other parts of the country.

The National Army representatives have also cleaned the Bic River four-hectare area and recovered a piece of land near “Eternitate” Memorial and the Chisinau-Mereni railway. Servicemen of all military units of the country cleaned parks, public places and rivers. Moreover, Codru EOD Battalion from Negresti cleaned and arranged three water sources from the neighborhood forest.

Thus, National Army military and civil staff planted nearly 8600 trees and bushes on the National Afforestation Day. Since 1995, National Army servicemen have planted nearly 65 thousand trees and bushes thus recovering over 100 hectares of forest.

Beginning with 2011, at the Ministry’s of Environment requirement, the Government decided to establish the last Saturday of October as the National Afforestation Day, for ecologists consider the high air temperature and the low soil temperature are not good for the growth of spring trees and bushes.
