JCC Fails to Identify Solutions to Unilateral Actions

CHISINAU, November 18, 2011 — The ninth round of the extraordinary meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) on the problem of illegal checkpoints installed by Tiraspol administration near Pohrebea village and on the Dubasari Water Power Plant, was held November 17 in Dubasari.

The Moldovan delegation has confirmed again the intention to continue discussing the existing problems, including the new proposals issued by the Russian, Ukrainian and OSCE Mission representatives within JCC.

During the meeting, the Transnistrian delegation kept denying the role and ability of the board to solve the problem of the illicit checkpoint in the Security area installed without JCC’s agreement. The representatives of the Transnistrian region rejected again the proposals of the members of the Russian, Ukrainian and OSCE Mission delegation within JCB regarding the establishment of a control point at the crossroads of Ribnita and Tiraspol to Pohrebea village through mobile police and militia checkpoints and the parties’ promises not to install any other checkpoints in the above area. They also ignored the needs of the local population. Moreover, one of the solutions issued by the Transnistrian party referred to blocking the part of the road connecting Pohrebea village with Ribnita-Tiraspol road. Thus, they proved ignorance towards the free circulation of citizens, goods and services in the area.

At the end of the meeting, Republic of Moldova delegation stood the position to identify a solution based on the joint proposals of the Russian, Ukrainian and OSCE Mission representatives to Moldova.

Due to some problems of organization, the next round of the JCC meeting will be held November 22, 2011.
