Saint Victor Church Celebrates Its Anniversary

CHISINAU, November 24, 2011 — Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta attended today, November 24, the anniversary ceremony of Saint Victor Church held at the Christian-Orthodox Training Center in Stefan cel Mare Brigade from Chisinau.

The ceremony started with a divine service conducted by eight military priests, accompanied by the choir of the Chisinau Theological Academy, that blessed the church and the guests of the event.

The parson of the church Gheorghe Gavrilita appreciated the cooperation of the National Army with the church, saying that such religious ceremonies and institutions work to the benefit of soldiers who are educated both physically, military, as well as spiritually. “This is a religious exercise which has a positive influence on the servicemen’s belief”, priest Gavrilita stated.

The event brought together the ex-Minister of Defense Victor Gaiciuc, retired Gen. Nicolae Petrica, as well as conscripts and servicemen from Stefan cel Mare Brigade and other military units.

During the ceremony, the Minister of Defense donated nearly 80 icons and offered a financial aid to the church. The Minister expressed his hope that such kind of churches would open soon in all the National Army military units. Marinuta also congratulated those who celebrated their name day wishing them health and peace.

Saint Victor Church opened November 23, 2009, within the Christian-Orthodox Training Center of Stefan cel Mare Brigade from Chisinau. This is the first church established on the territory of a military unit in the Republic of Moldova.

In future, churches are to be inaugurated in Moldova Brigade from Balti and Dacia Brigade from Cahul.
