The Transformation Directorate will be assisted by a US expert adviser

CHISINAU, November 30, 2020 - The Transformation Department of the Ministry of Defense will have an expert adviser from the USA to provide assistance in the reform and development of the National Army. Karen Bonaby was presented today to the Minister of Defense, Victor Gaiciuc, by the US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Dereck J. Hogan.

During the meeting, Victor Gaiciuc congratulated Karen Bonaby on the occasion of her appointment and wished her success in her work. The Minister of Defense expressed his conviction that his official experience will contribute to increasing the efficiency of the defense structure within the Partnership for Peace Program and will facilitate the implementation of the National Army`s Long-Term Development Plan (2020-2030), in the context of the second phase of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative Package of the Republic of Moldova (DCBI) and related projects.

In turn, Karen Bonaby said that it is a privilege to hold the position of expert in the field of reform and development of the National Army and assured that she will make every effort to successfully carry out activities aimed at transforming the military institution of the Republic of Moldova.

At the same time, Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan reiterated the US Government`s support in developing bilateral cooperation relations in the military segment, expressing confidence that Karen Bonaby`s experience will contribute to the effective achievement of the objectives assumed by the National Army in the second phase DCBI.

In the end, the parties agreed on strengthening Moldovan-American cooperation by carrying out projects in various areas of common interest.
