Moldovan-Latvian cooperation discussed in Riga by Minister Anatolie Nosatîi and his counterpart Andris Sprūds



CHISINAU, April 5, 2024 — Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi paid an official visit to Riga at the invitation of his Latvian counterpart Andris Sprūds. During the meeting, the officials discussed bilateral cooperation in the military sphere and prospects for its development, as well as support to the National Army in implementing military reform and strengthening the defense capabilities of our country.

Minister Nosatîi thanked the Latvian side for the assistance in the framework of the European Union projects for the Republic of Moldova through the European Peace Facility (EPF) and the Defense Capabilities Building Initiative (DCBI).

An important topic of the discussion was the peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Lebanon in which Moldovan military are participating, as well as the Republic of Moldova’s objective to enhance its contribution to international peace and security.

The two ministers also exchanged views on the regional security situation.

During the official visit to Riga, the delegation led by Minister Nosatîi also met with the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, the Director of the Cyber Security Policy Department of the Ministry of Defense, Edgars Kiukucāns, and the Deputy Director of the Riga Centre of Excellence for Strategic Communication, Einar Linn.

During the bilateral meetings, Anatolie Nosatîi expressed his gratitude for the Latvian Government’s solidarity in combating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic by generously donating to the health system of the Republic of Moldova and for contributing to the development of important sectors of our country. At the same time, the parties discussed support for Moldova’s development objectives, our country’s European path, as well as joint efforts to strengthen defense capabilities.

It should be recalled that Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi was on an official visit to Riga, Latvia, in April this year at the invitation of his counterpart Andris Sprūds.
