Moldovan-Greek Discussions on Defense Issues



CHISINAU, April 28, 2015 — Minister of Defense Viorel Cibotaru met today with the defense attaché of Greece to Republic of Moldova based in Bucharest, Navy Captain Dimitrios Antonarakos.

The two officials discussed about the Moldovan-Greek cooperation in the military field and set new goals for its development.

Thus, Viorel Cibotaru appreciated the assistance offered by the Hellenic Government in training Moldovan servicemembers in Greek educational institutions. Minister Cibotaru specified that the 47 officers and NCOs, who graduated the courses organized by the Ministry of Defense of Greece, contributed to the modernization of some important areas of the National Army.

Navy Capt. Dimitrios Antonarakos mentioned the support of the Hellenic Army for the process of reformation started by the new leadership of the Ministry of Defense and stated that his country is open to a mutually beneficial collaboration between the two armies.

Also today, Navy Capt. Dimitrios Antonarakos met with the Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan.

The Moldovan-Greek defense cooperation started in September 2003.
