Recruit’s Day in Orhei

CHISINAU, April 08, 2011 - The Military Territorial Center of Orhei organized Friday, April 8, the Recruit’s Day, in partnering with the local public administration.

The event brought together nearly 50 recruits from Orhei district, pupils, veterans and delegations of Orhei village mayoralties. The participants laid flowers at the monument of 1992 Dniester War heroes. Then, the recruits marched on the downtown streets accompanied by the military band of Stefan cel Mare Brigade.

According to Col. Vadim Cemirtan, Commander of the Air Force Command, such activities are meant to tell young people about military service, promote the image of the Armed Forces and civic education of youth based on commitment to their native country. „The Recruit’s Day is the follow-up of a fruitful cooperation between the army and local public administrations. Such events will be held in different regions throughout the entire conscription period”, Col. Cemirtan stated.

Ion Stratulat, Mayor of Orhei Town, said “The event is a tradition very useful for young men, for it shows them what the army means, making them aware of their duty to defend the native country. The army makes young men stronger. Thus, when they leave the military, they will be able to face life challenges wherever they are”.

The event included wrestling exercises, weapon handling exercises, presentations of military equipment, communications techniques, chemical protection suit, military weapons, food products used in a soldier’s lunch, and other staff. At the end of the ceremony, artistic bands and professional singers from Orhei district performed for the guests.
