Moldovan-Hungarian Dialogue at the Ministry of DefenseCHISINAU, May 22, 2015 — The Hungarian contribution to the Defense Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP), the security environment of Republic of Moldova, and the impact of the Eastern Ukraine crisis on national security were the subjects discussed by State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Aurel Fondos, and Head of Defense Policy Department of the Ministry of Defense of Hungary, Attila Demko. The meeting was also attended by the military attaché of Hungary to Republic of Moldova, Matyas Szilagzi, and Col. Istvan Toth. The officials have also discussed about the bilateral military cooperation with a stress on the Hungarian experts’ contribution to the development of National Army strategic documentation, as well as to the training of Moldovan servicemembers in specialized educational institutions. The issues of taking care of the graves and remembering the heroes of the two armies were also on the agenda. Thus, the Hungarian Minister of Defense, Csaba Hende, will pay a visit to Republic of Moldova to attend the inauguration of the Monument to Hungarian soldiers and civilians who died in World War II on the territory of Republic of Moldova, planned for this year. There are currently three military cemeteries of Hungarian soldiers on the territory of Republic of Moldova — in Balti, Tighina, and Chisinau. The Moldovan-Hungarian defense cooperation is based on the Defense Cooperation Agreement signed on November 25, 1997. |
