The first EOD Center of the National Army, inaugurated in Negresti

CHISINAU, November 8, 2019 - A center of excellence EOD (genius), a project realized with the support of the US Government, was inaugurated today in Negresti, Straseni.

On this occasion, a ceremony took place in the "Codru" Genius Battalion, attended by representatives of the National Army Command Corps, the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, defense attaches accredited in our country and engineers from military units.

During the event, the commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Igor Gorgan, thanked the US Government, which since 2013 has invested about 400 thousand dollars, the money being used for the construction and equipment of the center with specialized equipment.

"I want to assure you that this investment is important not only for the National Army, but also for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, because in our country the danger of unexploded ordnance, which dates back to the Second World War, still persists. I am sure that the military, who will be trained in this center, will benefit from the most modern techniques for carrying out demining missions on the national territory and for the foreign ones ", said Brigadier General Igor Gorgan.

According to the head of the Genius Service of the National Army, Lieutenant-Colonel Adrian Efros, the EOD Center is part of a project of the European Command of the US Armed Forces "Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) program", which started in 2013. The project provides financial assistance for the construction of study halls, donations of equipment and specialized training for National Army engineers.

It should be noted that so far, within the project, in addition to the construction and endowment of the EOD center of excellence with the necessary equipment, the USA has donated to the National Army individual EOD equipment, backpacks and 18 mine detectors. Moldovan engineers will also be trained by the North Carolina National Guard. The EUCOM HMA project will be completed in 2024 with the training of engineering instructors for the National Army.
