The National Council for War Veterans Affairs met at the first meeting



CHIŞINĂU, January 24, 2019 — The first meeting of the National Council for War Veterans Affairs was held today at the Center for Culture and Military History, in the presence of Prime Minister Ion Chicu.

In the opening of the event, Minister of Defense Victor Gaiciuc, who is also the president of the council, appreciated the involvement of the Government of the Republic of Moldova in establishing the respective forum. “The veterans who fought in the war deserve all our attention and care, especially now, when they are facing many medical, social and legislative problems. It is our duty to show them, through a joint effort, that we are with them and that we do our best to ensure a better life for them”, said Victor Gaiciuc.

In his turn, Prime Minister Ion Chicu emphasized the importance of the respective Council for the community of veterans throughout the country, specifying that the forum is the most effective tool, a platform that allows addressing the problems of veterans and identifying the solutions needed to improve the situation in the field.

“I’m glad to be here. Today we re-launch the activity of the National Council of Veterans, which is the most effective tool for solving the problems of veterans. We have over 20 thousand veterans. Problems are serious and have accumulated over the years. We came to discuss how we solve your problems and the country. I consider you the best men of the nation, let politics, dissensions, enmity and unity. I assure you that we will do everything the Government can today”, declared the prime minister.

There were topics on the agenda of the Council meeting regarding the creation of the mechanisms of activity of the forum by establishing working groups on different fields and of the councils on the problems of veterans in all districts, presenting the action plan “Memory. Honor. Respect” for the years 2020-2023, as well as hearing the reports of the ministries on the most pressing issues regarding the social protection of veterans.

At the same time, during the meeting, issues related to the conditions of spa-sanatorium treatment and rehabilitation, allowances for different categories of veterans, the granting of new type cards were addressed.

The National Council of War Veterans, established by Government Decision, on January 15, aims to coordinate the state policies, programs, plans and social protection actions of war veterans, as well as to ensure for this category of the population.
