Secretary of State Valeriu Mija, at the Strategic Dialogue Republic of Moldova - United States of America

CHIŞINĂU, April 18, 2024 — The Secretary of State in the field of defense policy, Valeriu Mija, participated in the plenary session of the Strategic Dialogue Republic of Moldova — United States of America (USA), as part of the delegation of our country led by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Business External, Mihai Popșoi. The event took place in Washington D.C.

Secretary of State Valeriu Mija intervened at the meeting of the Joint Working Group of the Strategic Dialogue that refers to security and defense aspects. Thus, the official of the Ministry of Defense referred to the priorities of the defense sector in the current context of regional security, the bilateral partnership and the projects implemented with the support of the US and foreign partners, which are directed towards the modernization of the National Army.

In this regard, the official thanked the American side for the constant assistance given to the Ministry of Defense during the 30 years of the Partnership for Peace, including through the Defense Capability Development Initiative (DCBI).

At the same time, Secretary of State Mija mentioned the very good cooperation with the North Carolina National Guard, which is materialized through expertise and training in the field of peacekeeping operations, crisis management, humanitarian assistance/disaster response, as well as interoperability.

The Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the USA aims to strengthen relations between the two states in various fields, for the promotion of the principles of the rule of law and democracy, the fight against corruption, security and defense, energy resilience, cyber security, investment and modernization, education and the academic environment , in line with the advancement of the reform agenda and the process of accession to the European Union.
